Gorgeous Antique Bed and a fun antique dresser for sale!

This past month has been so incredibly busy. So happy to share some new “for sale” furniture with you! I have been busy working on many pieces for a non-profit store/boutique my aunt is opening up in Brentwood. I can’t wait to share with you the finished product and her gorgeous store once everything is set up! So there will be much more about that later, so stay tuned :)

As for today, I am sharing with you two different things I have done this past week. Recently, I thought to myself it had been awhile since I have done any beds. Lo and behold, I found a gorgeous antique full-sized detailed bed for sale. I painted it a dusty blue-gray with a little pearl on the surface, and a little off white on the detail. This will be a lovely piece for someone, even a guest room!frenchbed 1 copy

I also found a little antique dresser I liked the shape of, and decided to do something creative with it. Though the piece is painted in pure white, it features vintage sewing patterns along the fronts of the drawers, making it adorably unique! And by vintage, I mean really VINTAGE as they came from my husband’s grandmother’s basement. That lady has saved everything over the years! Sweet of her to let me use some of what she has kept :)

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend ! Here’s to a busy summer!

Spring Blossoms

Happy Spring everyone! Okay so it hasn’t felt much like spring…. BUT, here in Nashville it is supposed to be gorgeous starting tomorrow. I’m seeing pretty much a weeks worth of weather in the 70′s and it’s about time :)

So, in celebration of spring, here is a little cherry blossom dresser. I LOVE cherry blossom trees. So gorgeous. They remind me of my trip to Savannah last spring, and if you didn’t read about that little trip, you can here http://asouthernstory.com/2012/05/09/georgia-on-my-mind/.

I took this little chest on chest dresser, and added some soft peachy pink blossoms with a soft gray. I already had this painted in an antique white, so adding the flowers was a small little project for me, since I am really still on maternity leave. I am however slowly starting this month to get back to painting. So if I have not gotten back to you about custom work, and you are interested, please contact me so we can set something up for sometime this month. So glad it is finally going to be nice out!

Be sure to check out the “currently for sale” page for more info on this dresser.

Everyone enjoy your weekend!

A little indecision… and for sale!

So, over my years of painting furniture, the decor in my actual home constantly has evolved. The frustrating part is that I am never done! But the fun part is that I come across amazing pieces with this job. I haven’t always been able to just keep pieces that I love, but there have definitely been many occasions that I have, or I have put an older piece up for sale to keep a new piece that I like. That’s the perk of my job!

This week, I painted a gorgeous shabby chic buffet, and really fell in love with it. It’s even more awesome in person. I was thinking really it also matches the side tables in our living room, and that maybe instead of selling it, I should keep it for an entertainment center. The thing is I have a gorgeous antique empire style chest that I currently use for that purpose. If I had the room, I would just keep both! I just couldn’t decide which I liked better for the room really. Even my husband can’t decide! So….. I thought, I will put them both up for sale, and leave it to fate! Whichever goes first, I will keep the other :)

So here they are:
This shabby chic buffet is all solid oak, and the previous owner said from the 1940′s. It has 9 drawers (some with some built-in features). I painted the bottom portion an antique white, and distressed. The top I stained dark walnut. There is so much detail on it! It has a rustic feel, but it’s also very elegant. It is Thomasville brand, and well-built. It is for sale on the “currently for sale” page.

And here is the other:

This empire chest of drawers is so gorgeous! We always get compliments on it. I purchased it awhile ago from a home in Brentwood (for you locals) that was over 100 years old. I’m not certain of the age of the piece, but it’s in great condition to be as old as it is! Love those glass knobs…

Everyone have a great week!

flea market recap

So last weekend (by last I mean Memorial Day weekend) I had a booth at the Nashville Fairgrounds Flea Market. SO much fun! I met some great people, and saw some AMAZING things…. some I bought, and some I just didn’t have time to go get while also manning my booth. If I do it again in the future, I think I might wait until fall, so that during the summer months I can go and shop it myself :)

I did decently, though it seemed like I sold almost all of my smaller items, and only some furniture. Part of it seemed that no one had come shopping planning on buying a large item. I think if I did it again, I will only bring a small amount of furniture, and fill my booth with painted chandeliers, chalkboards, frames and other painted smaller items.

Overall, a fun time, and great learning experience. One of the perks was being next to a booth with the SWEETEST lady ever! She had the most awesome rusty stuff that she had picked all herself at a place in Franklin. I did come home with some of her stuff, which I will post some pictures of these great finds in a post soon. I also intend on going picking with her in the very near future! We had a lot of laughs while at our booths for 3 days… what a blessing to have met her. Thank you for the fun Paige, I can’t wait to go picking with you!

Though I was there for 3 days, it was fairly busy, so I am sure there was a lot that I missed. I can’t wait to go back and shop! One of my friends from high school, Sarah, had some AWESOME stuff at her booth. She was outside in one of the sheds, and with being so busy, I never got a chance to see it in person, which I hate! Hopefully she does it again in the future, and I can visit it. Their store is called “Ladylike (reclaimist)” and you can find them on Facebook here…. I LOVE their stuff , especially the repurposed window frames.

Here are some of the pictures of my booth:

One of the most convenient things EVER was that I was able to take credit and debit cards as well. Right before the flea market (perfect timing!) I received my “PayPal Here” in the mail. I am part of a select group using this new system, and so far I love it. Because it is on my phone, I can now also accept credit cards if you are local and want to purchase furniture from me. Excited to use it!

Check out my “currently for sale” page for some of the stuff left that is still available. And stay tuned this week for some pictures of my awesome flea market scores…..

Flea Market Time!!!

I have done craft shows before, and though I loved them, they were A LOT of work. Like “stay up all night the night before trying to get everything together, and somehow manage to get there on time with your booth looking cute” amount of work, meaning you are looking…. well like “you need extra concealer under your eyes” exhausted. That being said, they have almost always been worth it for the people you meet, fun stuff you get to see, and stuff you sell, or new clients you make. My goal is to do some more of these in the future.

So I thought I would try out the Nashville Flea Market. I have never done it before, and it is not exactly a craft show, but I have been there shopping  before and it is AWESOME. I remember a few years ago going, and getting an amazing wrought iron chandelier there (which I ended up using at my wedding reception!).

I am SO excited! Who doesn’t love antiques, vintage finds, old furniture, shabby chic items, everything rusty under the sun….. I can just see the barn wood doors, reclaimed window panes, and rusty old gates now! Oh how will I ever manage to stay at my booth and not run off to rummage through things shopping?!

So,  if you don’t have your memorial day weekend all planned out, grab some friends and come by! It is free to get in,  but it is $5 to park and located at the Nashville Fairgrounds. It is a VERY large area to walk around and shop. It may be hot this weekend, but my booth will be in the Creative Arts building with lovely air conditioning :) Just look for booth 93….. the girl who might possibly look like she has that “extra concealer under her eyes” look from throwing this together last-minute ;)

Shabby Chic Beds & Main Street Festival

Glad to be back to painting! I have only had time to fit a couple of things in lately. We have been busy with my son’s 1st birthday! SO much fun! I will share some pics soon of his Mickey Party. And my birthday was yesterday…so after this weekend, things should settle back down. And then I should be back to getting busy with furniture. I have a lot of great pieces to come soon, so stayed tuned! We also spent the day at the Main Street Festival in Franklin, Tn. Probably my favorite spring activity! LOVE seeing all the talented local artists and crafts, eating amazing southern food, hearing banjos in the distance, and walking around…. a friend of mine spotted Eli Manning there today! Too funny.
Here are the beds I had time to paint that will be going up on the “currently for sale” page if you are interested…. And a few pictures from our day at the festival too :)

Antique Shabby Chic Bed in a soft “antique” white. Has distressed edges and “chippy” paint. Comes with wooden side rails, as well as several slats for extra support. Lots of pretty detailing, and gorgeous posts! Quite a statement piece. Size fits a full.

Apple red spindle bed! Gorgeous glossy fire engine red makes this bed really fun. Great for a guest room. I think it would look so CUTE with some amazing patterned bedding and used in a boy or girl’s room!
Saw some cute ideas I might have to do myself…..
In line for more food…. My FAVORITE lemonade is at the main street festival too!
Porches in the south are so romantic…..
We also bought some strawberries, and they are by far the best I have ever eaten! No added sugar necessary :)
Remember to check the “Currently For Sale” Page for more pictures and prices!
Also, for anyone interested in purchases, I am looking forward to soon being able to use “Paypal Here” which is set to be released sometime this spring. It will allow me to swipe a customer’s credit card upon purchase. Until then, I accept cash, as well as Paypal payments online. I will let you all know when it is set up!

French Chair Goodness and Future Giveaway

Everybody loves a good before and after, right?
I SO often get so busy/ anxious/ excited to start on a piece, that I forget to take a before picture. it just messes with my mojo. It takes long enough to get together all the supplies I’m going to use, that stopping to find the camera just isn’t something I want to do. But when I am done, do I regret it? Most of the time!
Well, today you get one. pretty chair, huh? Not everything I paint starts out ugly, haha. It had beautiful lines and detail (the first thing I look for). It just needed a little updating.
I started with a robins egg blue, then did some antiquing (my, that took forever with all its details!) and a touch of glaze to give it a pearlescent look in the right light. What do you think? I will add this chair to the “currently for sale” page.

I also finished a HUGE shabby chic mirror. gorgeous details. it would look amazing in a shabby chic dining room, but would also look great in a bedroom, living room, or nursery. hand painted in a very soft “antique” white, and sealed to last. be sure to check the “currently for sale” page if you are interested in buying.

And lastly, on to the giveaway information :) Since i am a new blog, and wanting to grow, I have decided to do a giveaway. Everyone loves to win something free! Once i get to 100 followers ( just go to the home page, and look on the right, enter your email and you will get updates when I have a new post) i will be awarding a random follower (via number jumbler). Make sure to sign up to receive notification of my post, as I will be reminding everyone about it, and giving the rules on how to enter once it gets closer. Here is what one lucky follower will win:

A hand painted, hand antiqued by me, shabby chic chalkboard. here are just some of the things you can do with this beauty:

The sky is the limit really! these are the latest craze. I have even seen these used by the little ring bearer in weddings with the words “here comes the bride.” You may even think of more ways to use it!
So…. remember to stay tuned to hear about winning this. Also, to help me get to 100 followers even sooner, you can “share” my blog with friends via pinterest, and facebook. at the end of this post, you will see button for either. so share, and help me grow!
Thanks everyone!

French Country Cottage

my coffee table reveal and a little something sweet

hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
the weather in nashville was beautiful. we adventured to the zoo on friday with our 11 month old for his first visit there. he couldn’t always see the animals up in trees or far back, but he was wide-eyed at the ones he could see. we enjoyed it so much we bought a yearly membership. this stage in life is full of fun memories, i’m trying to soak it all up :)
so, as i have said before, with all the furniture i do, it feels like i rarely am working on stuff of my own. i showed you all my coffee table last week (here is a picture to refresh your memory).
…. and truly i actually liked it the way it was already! however, our leather couches are dark, and it was all too much dark heavy decor for my taste, so i needed to add a little “shabby.” also the top had some water damage that created a raised spot. so i had to get creative with that.
a little chalk paint, and decoupage later…
Here is how it turned out:
what do you think?
also, i finished a sweet little antique chest of drawers. i will put this on the “currently for sale” page for anyone interested in purchasing it. a soft off white, with chippy distressing, and a subtle detail of metallic glaze stripes along the front. this would be precious in a nursery! but could go in any room. perfect size for even some linen/ towel storage in a bathroom maybe?

and just because…. here is a little picture of the springtime blooming in my yard:
here’s to another week!

Today's Creative Blog

a little weekend wrap up

Hope you all had a great weekend! After getting over a cold (my husband and the baby included) and seeing such nice weather, I couldn’t help but feel the need for a good spring cleaning. And by spring cleaning, I mean complete OCD, sweeping, vacuuming, then using two different kinds of mops kind of cleaning. Plus some organizing…. that is a lovely feeling. And I went through a bunch of clothes to set aside for a “clothes swap party” this upcoming week. Have you heard of these? This is my first one, I am so excited! All the guests bring clothes they are sick of, and you basically shop each others things, with the leftover being donated. I can’t wait!

Otherwise, I finished this antique table/desk, and will add it to the “currently for sale” page.

Also, this is my coffee table, I have been meaning to do (yes my own stuff gets put on the back burner until I finally get around to it). Here is the BEFORE picture….. stay tuned, and later in the week I will show you what I did with it!

French Blue Antique Dresser & Mirror

Solid wood antique dresser with swaying mirror attached. French blue distressed paint, featuring glazing, and bird art. Top is refinishing in a rustic style stain. Beautiful piece for a nursery as well.

(this post is now sold, if you are local and want commissioned work, i can create a similar piece)
